How Our Church Is Organized
 
The Oversight Team- “Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers” Acts 20:28 The Oversight Team provides spiritual leadership in the church. They provide spiritual leadership in the following ways. Personally Modeling Wholehearted Obedience to Christ - Members of the Oversight Team will personally take the lead in raising the spiritual temperature of the church through their own pursuit of following Jesus, specifically through the word of God and prayer, Acts 20, 1 Timothy 3, 1 Timothy 4:12-13. Safeguarding the Spiritual Health of the Church - The Oversight Team is charged with the responsibility to guard the spiritual health of the church. This will involve proactively caring for God’s people so they grow in their faith and conversely protecting the flock entrusted to their care, Acts 20:28-31. Teaching, Honoring, Applying God’s Word - Oversight Team members will ensure that God’s word is honored in what the church says and does. The church is to provide a Christ-like stance in the community and larger body of Christ Acts 6, Acts 20. Part of this role will be settling doctrinal issues (Acts 15). Represent New Life in Church Appointed Matters - Members of the team, individually or in groups will be called upon to represent New Life in church-related matters, Acts 15, James 5:14. Overseeing Church Discipline/Disputes - The Oversight Team will be the highest level for hearing matters of church discipline. The oversight team will model and implement the church discipline procedure laid out in Matthew 18. Championing the Vision and Values of the Church - The Oversight Team will work with the Senior Pastor to help the church stay true to God’s unique purposes for New Life Community Church, Philippians 2:2. Give Input on “Big Picture” Issues that Effect the Church at Large - The Oversight Team will consider church-wide issues that impact all of New Life. They will play a role in the decision making process for matters that effect our entire church family, 1 Timothy 5:17, Acts 15. Provide Counsel for the Senior Pastor - The Oversight Team will be available to provide support and counsel to the Senior Pastor. From time to time the Senior Pastor will bring matters to the Oversight Team as a sounding board in the decision making process, Acts 15:6. The Church Board The Oversight Team provides spiritual leadership for the church, the Church Board provides organizational leadership. (Note - members of the Church Board are normally selected from the oversight team). Specifically, the church board provides corporate governance and fulfills roles that are legally required by corporate law in the state of California. They serve in the following ways. Monitor the finances of the church - Approve the church budget - Approve non-budgeted capital expenses - Approve the purchase or sale of real property Monitor legal/corporate issues - Highest decision making body in the church - Authorize legal matters where the church is involved - Maintain corporate accountability Provide Accountability and Support for the Senior Pastor - Power to hire, fire, or discipline Senior Pastor - Approve and oversee compensation of Senior Pastor - Provide support and encouragement for the Senior Pastor

The information below provides a snapshot of our church’s organization. 


The day to day ministry is led by our great team of volunteers.  They in turn are supported by our staff team which oversees the day to day operation of the larger church.


Supporting both the staff and volunteer ministry teams are the Oversight Team and Church Board.  The following provides information on these two important teams.


Note - The Bible uses the terms elder and overseer interchangeably, we use the term Oversight team to refer to our Elders.
